"Find something you love. Nurture it. Manipulate it. Then you can call it art."
Unlike a realist, it is important to me that the viewer is aware of my presence so I design the collages and paintings with many layers and textured brush strokes. I consider myself to be an expressionistic painter.
I discover something on a Sarasota beach, on a foreign street or at a flea market. I see something that touches me. It can be a person, particularly a child, or a scene and I photograph it. I transform that reality into a new reality.
I attach that item to a canvas, discard all fears, embrace spontaneity and let it take me where it wants to go.
I use acrylics, inks, pencils, crayons, fabric, plastic and anything else that completes the message.
I welcome you to explore my works. |
I've been touched by and influenced by the works of Robert Rauschenberg, Larry Rivers and Alice Neel. I've been fortunate to study under two extraordinary Sarasota based artists, Joseph Melancon and Bill Buchman.
